ARPS Statement
In looking at the panel overall, apart from the obvious monochrome presentation, the theme emerging is one of anonymity. The silhouettes, profiles, cropped figures and rear views; lessen the sense of individual personality and heighten to wider sense of the ‘everyman’.
The figures provide centres of interest in wider environmental contexts. Each picture has a story that is told through the compositions and choices made. Throughout we see figures and faces, man-made and human, and in each image the viewer is required to interpret the recorded tensions.
The use of monochrome is a homage to great photographers of the past, who had to work with this medium, whose strength was through design, shape, line and texture.
